This line of Shallow, Hi-Def Tuned Subwoofers feature rigid low-mass cones, strong dual layered spiders, highly compressed EROM surrounds and a high-temp 3 inch voice coil that hits hard, low and fast. They use recently developed shallow cast frames coupled to high energy motors, perfect for compact enclosures. The SL700s have inherited most of their design attributes from the venerable Voice Optimized W700 woofers. Those VO-Ws were released to be low frequency woofers, filling in the mid-to-bass gap, but they had very heavy motors making them less than ideal for some locations, such as doors. More often than not, they were being used by customers as sound quality subwoofers in smaller, sealed enclosures. The issue of motor weight was solved with the introduction of the new neo driven VO-WN700 woofers, but the demand for a companion subwoofer had been established with the W700s popularity, giving rise to the SL700s with a slightly reduced ferrite motor diameter for broader applications, and the added inclusion of a 15 inch option.

These Hi-Def Shallow Subwoofers are a throwback to the DD9000/DD4500 era, designed for exceptional efficiency, producing smooth bass from smaller enclosures tuned to play any kind of music that system is geared toward, with a bandwidth capable of striking tonal perfection from 30 to 300Hz.
