HAUPPAUGE, NEW YORK – AUGUST 23, 2016 -–VOXX Electronics announced that CarLink, an advanced convenience and security solution, has been awarded a TWICE VIP Award from TWICE Magazine.

In its most recent issue TWICE, a trade magazine for professionals in the consumer electronics industry announced the winners of their 4th annual VIP (Very Important Product) Awards. These awards are voted on by retailers and distributors to honor products that have made the biggest difference in their business based on product features, design and value to consumers.

“We are honored that TWICE readers have recognized CarLink with this award. Remote start as we know it today has remained unchanged for over 20 years. The introduction of CarLink has reinvented what these systems can now do by transforming your smartphone into a virtual transmitter. Users never have to worry about being without access to their vehicle again,” said Aron Demers, Senior Vice President, VOXX Electronics Corporation.

When combined with a remote start system CarLink allows you to access your vehicle without the use of a transmitter. Once paired with our powerful smartphone app, CarLink transforms a smartphone into a virtual transmitter, instantly giving you remote access to your vehicle and a direct connection to OE-style safety and convenience services. CarLink offers three different services: Bluetooth Basic Service, delivering access to the vehicle without the use of a transmitter to lock/unlock and start your vehicle (within Bluetooth range) while also providing a direct connection to the CarLink Insurance Discount Program for potential money saving insurance discounts with up to 19 different insurance carriers.

One can also upgrade to the CarLink Cellular Basic Service giving you remote access from virtually anywhere in the world where you have cellular coverage. For those interested accessing in-vehicle safety services upgrading to the Cellular Premium Service provides you with a direct connection to many OE-style safety and convenience features right from your smartphone.

12-18-2017, Mobile Electronics -- With countless mobile and personal electronics from overhead monitors to speakers, to remote starters, Voxx carries just about anything you can imagine. It is fitting that its technical support is also expansive.

The department is vastly different from when Edward Catapano first joined Audiovox 20 years ago, interestingly in tech support before eventually becoming director of technical services.

“The biggest change is you must be more technologically advanced today,” he said. “Back then every car was similar to one another. If you knew how to put a radio in Car A, that radio could be installed and wired into Car B. Today, every car is different. Everything works off the vehicle’s computer and every car is advanced so you really have to think about what you touch and what you’re doing. You need modules to decipher that information for you.” When the module is installed—for example, between a remote start and the car—the module does a lot of the work for you, Catapano explained, adding that it’s much more difficult to do an install nowadays.

Advanced cars, tougher installs, and more complex products are precisely why Voxx has coordinated a comprehensive effort to manage issues for consumers, installers and dealers. All tech support functions funnel through Catapano’s department of 12 employees. Everyone sits around him in the call center at the corporate offices in Hauppauge, N.Y.

Catapano’s hand-picked team of techs, he said, is ready for just about anything.  Catapano himself is MECP certified, along with three of his techs. The rest of the team is MECP Advanced.

“I could bet the farm that I have one of the best teams in the business,” he said. “They can take their hat and turn it when a consumer calls and then they can turn the hat one more time when an installer calls and needs help with something. These techs have installed products all of their lives, so I have almost 300 years of experience in my department.”

On any given day, there are a couple of dozen phone numbers that pump calls into the center. There is one for consumers and other numbers dedicated to dealers. “If we get a call and it’s computer related—maybe an installer is trying to flash software into a unit—my guys will take over the computer and not only show the caller how to do it, but will do the work and train the installer on the phone at the same time,” Catapano said. “This method lets a person learn what to do for the future. If we just tell them how to fix something, great. If we do it for them, great. But if we can do the work, show them, and also teach them at the same time, then they keep that knowledge forever.”

The tech support team is also cross-trained. When calls come in, they can bounce to anyone. “Everyone here can do everything,” Catapano said. Some techs are more adept at certain types of calls, so priorities can be set on those calls so they’re directed to certain people on the team. “Technician A may be good at a particular type of call, so when that call comes in, I might set his priority for that type of call higher than for everyone else. “

Unbox, Dissect And Discuss

With so many products that the techs might potentially have to answer questions about, it is essential to keep everybody up to date with the intricacies of new items and also revisit the mainstays. Catapano does this with hands-on trainings. “I take everyone in the conference room and we physically unbox a product,” he said. “I give out the installation and owner’s manuals to each person. We’ll sit around the table and talk about the product, rip it apart, go through the installation and owner’s manuals, and everyone marks them up with their own feedback.”

Catapano takes it the next step and puts techs on his team in cars to have them actually install products. “Every day, I pull one of my guys off the phone, and we do this in a round-robin fashion,” Catapano said. “My technician will sit inside of a person’s car and install a product. Every day, we do another installation, even though it is common practice or mundane if we do similar things over and over again. My technicians have to be as smart and up to date as the people we talk to, so they can’t just sit on the phone and not experience what these other people are experiencing.”

From its small beginnings rooted in a now-obsolete product, Voxx International is manufacturing products at every end of the electronics spectrum, giving itself nowhere to go but up.

Mobile Electronics, June Issue, Behind The Scenes, 6/16/2016 -- Does anyone remember pocket transistor radios? Probably not, yet this tiny gadget served as the foundation for one of the most formidable consumer electronics companies in the industry today—Voxx International.

Back in 1960, John Shalam sold pocket transistor radios for an import company, but when a deal went south that left him saddled with 2,000 car stereos, he unexpectedly had a new game plan and a new company. By 1965 Audiovox was in business and Shalam was selling aftermarket car radios to car dealers. The timing couldn’t have been better since back then approximately 35 percent of the vehicles delivered to a new car dealer came without a car radio. From there, he moved the product to mom-and-pops and then to mass merchants.

Today, that gumption is still very much part of the company’s ethos where Shalam remains as chairman of the board. Renamed Voxx International in December 2011, it is now headed by CEO Pat Lavelle who has been in that role since 2005.

“Starting with John and all the people who have been important in shaping the company along the way, it has always been entrepreneurial and still is,” Lavelle said. “John set the company up that way and we have carried on that entrepreneurial spirit even through all of our acquisitions. Really, the essence has not changed much from when I started with the company back in 1977.”

Through its natural evolution and strategic acquisitions, Voxx has boomed from its car stereo roots to a major consumer electronics company that manufactures and supplies product to big box retailers, specialty and mass merchants, as well as to automotive OEMs including Volkswagen, Audi, BMW, DAF Daimler, Peugeot, Ford Motor Company, Chrysler, General Motors Corporation, Toyota, Kia, Mazda, Subaru, Nissan, Porsche and Bentley.

Pacing With Product

Throughout the company’s evolution, Voxx has both embraced and extricated itself from certain product categories while trying to maintain momentum in the tech industry. The company’s ability to chart a successful course while many of its competitors have struggled or simply gone away has made it a strong partner for 12-volt and specialty retailers who have also gained the opportunity to invest in new product categories and technologies.

In the early 1980s, Audiovox was one of the first companies in the country to introduce remote car start. Today, remote start remains a core segment for aftermarket automotive retailers.

Then the car phone emerged as the next big thing. “Everybody wanted to have a phone in their car,” Lavelle said. “We developed our car phone business which then expanded into handsets. We became a big supplier of cellular in the U.S., and for a number of years we had number one market share in CDMA phones.”

By 2004, the cell phone business declined and Audiovox exited cellular leaving just the electronics. “We obviously had our roots in the automotive side and wanted to continue with it,” Lavelle said. Today, the automotive business—aftermarket and OEM—accounts for 50 percent of Voxx’s total volume. “We are very active in the aftermarket and continue to look at disruptive technologies that are going to be introduced in the aftermarket eventually moving into the OEM space.”

HAUPPAUGE, NEW YORK – October 31, 2017 -–VOXX Electronics Corporation (VEC), announced it is now shipping the new Flashlogic FLRSBA and will showcase the product at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada October 31st – November 3rd 2017.

“We are very excited to begin shipping our first fully integrated remote start / security system with a built in FLCAN – the FLRSBA.  The FLRSBA was developed in conjunction with Automotive Data Solutions (ADS) and brings together the advanced technology of ADS with the core VOXX security and remote start features.”, said Aron Demers, Senior Vice President, VOXX Electronics Corporation.

Frank Barassi, President of Automotive Data Solutions Inc. (ADS), also stated, “VOXX and ADS have been great partners for over ten years. This valued relationship empowers us to together launch innovative remote start solutions. The FLRSBA is the culmination of years of effort and will launch with 102 different firmware sets, covering 7600+ vehicles, and designed to support many more advanced solutions coming soon. We are proud of the result and hope mobile electronic retailers and distributors embrace this product; and that we together continue to collaborate to ensure our industry sustains itself for the many years to come.”

The FLRSBA incorporates many of the patented VOXX features such as Real Panic Sound horn honk and Custom Code override.  It also has dual built-in data converters allowing dealers to add any Prestige, Code Alarm or Pursuit transmitter kit without needing an external data converter.  The FLRSBA is also CarLink compatible for telematics control.  VOXX will also be offering an advanced security option, the BASEC, that adds a siren with extended harness and access to the built-in digital tilt sensor.

The FLRSBA is t-harness compatible for low current remote start applications.  VOXX will also be releasing over 20 t-harness kits for thousands of vehicle applications – including Toyota and Mazda.  The support side of the “BA” is as impressive as the product.  We will have a uniquely custom vehicle by vehicle – wire by wire – installation guide for each vehicle application.

Demers continued.  “We are expanding the Vehicle Security / Remote Start & Data Start offering with the FLRSBA, not replace anything in the Prestige, Code Alarm, Pursuit or current Flashlogic Data Start line-up.  The FLRSBA can also replace our current “vehicle specific” data start systems, giving our dealers the option of a “one module” solution with different vehicle specific harnesses – increasing flexibility and reducing carrying costs.  However, we will still carry the majority of our complete kit module and harness applications – giving you a choice.  We want to give our dealers what they are asking for, and continue to lead the industry in bringing new innovative products to market”.

MSRP: $399.99

VOXX Electronics Corporation announced the future of remote starts with the introduction of CarLinkBT, a Bluetooth module and smartphone app that is compatible with most popular remote start systems.

When paired with its corresponding smartphone app, CarLinkBT transforms a smartphone into a virtual transmitter, instantly giving remote access to the vehicle and a direct connection to OE-style safety and convenience services delivering a complete safety, convenience and security solution.

“Remote start as we know it today has remained virtually unchanged for over 20 years, providing users with a simple and convenient way to preheat or cool their vehicle with the use of a transmitter.  But what if your transmitter was locked in your car, lost, damaged or had a dead battery leaving you with no way into your vehicle?  With the introduction of CarLinkBT we have reinvented what remote start systems can now do,” said Tom Malone, President of VOXX Electronics Corporation.  “For a one-time fee of $7.99, users can download the CarLinkBT app turning their smartphone into a virtual transmitter to unlock/lock and start their vehicle, eliminating the worry of ever being without a transmitter again.”

Once the CarLinkBT module is installed with a compatible remote start and/or factory keyless entry and the app is downloaded, the CarLinkBT Bluetooth Basic Service delivers access to the vehicle without the use of a transmitter.  With CarLinkBT, never worry about being without access to your vehicle again. CarLinkBT provides peace of mind by having a virtual transmitter within the smartphone at all times.

For a one-time fee, the CarLinkBT app provides users with Remote Access/Start capabilities within Bluetooth range on up to 10 smartphones. Users will also have access to the CarLink Insurance Discount Program to potentially save hundreds of dollars on their car insurance.

In-vehicle safety services are some of the most desirable features in today’s newest vehicles. However, there are millions of cars on the road today that are not equipped with these OE-style features as standard equipment. The CarLinkBT Cellular Premium Service is an upgraded service plan that provides users with many of today’s most desired safety and convenience features at one low price. The additional services are included within the CarLinkBT Cellular Premium Service3 easily accessible directly from your CarLinkBT smartphone app:

-        E-Call Service – provides 24/7 access to make a one-touch call a dedicated Emergency Response call center in the event of an emergency.

-        Roadside Assistance – provides users with a dedicated Emergency Call Center running 24/7 to assist you if you break-down, run out of gas, get a flat tire…just about anything.

-        Stolen Vehicle Assistance – Helps to locate your vehicle, and share its location with the local authorities to assist in vehicle recovery.

-        Driver Safety includes our unique driver distraction Text Blocking App to reduce texting and driving while vehicle is in motion, the ability to set (up to five) Geo-Fences sending alerts when a vehicle enters or exits pre-determined zones, and Speed Alerts sending a notification if the vehicle should exceed a predetermined speed threshold.

-        Location Services – includes On-Demand Vehicle Location to notify  you of real-time vehicle location, as well as access to Trip Maps to view the path vehicle has traveled when enabled.

-        Driver Scoring – provides reports to help improve driving habits and assist in driver coaching.

The CarLinkBT module will now also be included with the Company’s recently introduced, new Prestige PROCORE remote start.  Prestige PROCORE is a “one-module” solution allowing dealers to build any style of remote start by focusing on customized features based on what is most important to their customers – without stocking multiple complete kits.

The CarLinkBT Module (ASCLBT) will be available early spring for an MSRP of $69.99.

The Prestige PROCORE with CarLinkBT (PC1BT) will be available early spring for an MSRP of $349.99.

Users must opt-in on the CarLinkBT App and agree to have their driving data reviewed by one of 19 participating insurance carriers to be eligible for savings discounts.  Saving discounts are determined by the selected insurance carrier based on driving data collected.
