Automotive aftermarket industry will reconnect in-person Nov. 2-5 in Las Vegas

Industry professionals can register online at www.semashow.com/register

DIAMOND BAR, Calif. (May 5, 2021) -- Registration for the 2021 SEMA Show, scheduled for Nov. 2-5 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nev., is now open at www.semashow.com/register.

The premier gathering for the automotive specialty equipment industry, the 2021 SEMA Show already has more than 1,500 companies confirmed to exhibit and many more expected before the event takes place in November. Exhibitors include major automakers and small businesses, as well as iconic aftermarket manufacturers who are enhancing their booths to heighten their presence at what will be the first industry-wide in-person gathering for the $46.2 billion specialty automotive industry in nearly two years.

"Given the restrictions our industry has endured the last year, pent-up demand for the SEMA Show is at an all-time high," said Tom Gattuso, SEMA vice president of events. "More so than other years, the 2021 SEMA Show will be fundamental in helping industry professionals grow existing relationships, create new ones, and push their businesses forward."

Attendees at the 2021 SEMA Show will witness firsthand nearly two year's worth of innovation, technology, and new products from manufacturers, as they showcase products, debut vehicles, conduct demonstrations, and prepare to do business throughout all four halls of the 3.2-million-square-foot Las Vegas Convention Center.

“We are ready to get back to SEMA and connect with our customers this fall," said Michael Hamrick, Wilwood Disc Brakes events and promotions manager. "Everyone at Wilwood Disc Brakes is putting their best foot forward to have a great event and catch up with our customers. We have quite a few new products to unveil, and SEMA is the place to do it.”

With the entire Convention Center in use, the SEMA Show floor will be designed to improve traffic flow and make navigating the event simple and easy. The 2021 SEMA Show floorplan will begin to take shape during the annual Priority Space Selection process June 7-23. Companies that submit booth space applications before May 7 will participate in the weeks-long process to determine their booth location on the Las Vegas Convention Center. Attendees will also be able to sign up for educational seminars featuring industry experts, and networking events that bring market niches together.

"We’re excited to already be working with the more than 1,500 companies that have committed to exhibit at this year's SEMA Show, and we expect hundreds more to reserve booth space before May 7," said Gattuso. "We encourage attendees to register early so they can secure their credentials and receive updates on breaking news from what will be an amazing event."

Registration for the 2021 SEMA Show is offered in three categories – attendee, exhibitor, and media – and everyone must qualify to receive a badge and attend. For more information about qualifying documents and the 2021 SEMA Show, log on to www.semashow.com.

The “Hellbender” is the ultimate off-road event vehicle

Torrance, Calif. (Oct. 31, 2017) — Alpine Electronics today unveiled its newest demo vehicle, a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited named “Hellbender.”  Hellbender debuted at the SEMA Show, currently being held in Las Vegas today through Nov. 3, 2017.

This customized Wrangler is ready to take the Alpine infotainment system anywhere, whether on the road or off the beaten track.  Since the Wrangler features several products that can withstand dust, mud, and water, the Hellbender name was chosen as a reference to the large, amphibious hellbender salamander.

“Our ongoing research with Wrangler owners revealed off-road usage needs that we’ve addressed through new products and features,” said Mike Anderson, vice president and general manager, aftermarket business unit, Alpine Electronics of America, Inc.  “This Wrangler showcases the functional aspect of the Alpine products in a fun and unique way.”

Features for Wrangler Fans

The Hellbender’s Alpine system is centered around the X209-WRA-OR weather resistant Restyle dash system for the 2011-2017 Jeep Wrangler.  The X209-WRA-OR infotainment system includes navigation, Bluetooth® wireless technology, Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, all controlled through the 9-inch touch screen.  The X209-WRA-OR is IP53 rated for protection against dust with limited ingress and fresh water spray up to 60° vertical, so the Wrangler can be driven with the top off even when Mother Nature has other plans.

The X209-WRA-OR has features favored by adventure-seeking Wrangler owners.  The off-road mode for navigation includes useful features like compass readings, vehicle tilt, tire pressure readings, route tracking on trails, and Points of Interest (POIs) on the way to trailheads.  Wrangler accessories like the light pods and winch can be controlled from the X209-WRA-OR’s touch screen, used with s-POD’s 8-circuit SE system and 300-LSHS accessory interface module along with the Alpine KAC-001 accessory controller.  Status feedback of these accessories is also available through the off-road mode.

No expedition is complete without music, and the Hellbender delivers.  Knowing that Wrangler owners often drive with the top off, the PSS-22WRA sound system is ready for inclement weather.  This 600-watt, weather resistant sound system is Alpine engineered for the 2007-2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and includes nine speakers, two compact amplifiers, and an enclosed subwoofer.  The various products have a minimum rating of IP55, so they can withstand rain from off-roading adventures or water from a rinse-off.

First of its Kind Collaborations

Alpine collaborated with Smittybilt, manufacturer of Jeep lifestyle accessories, on specific products for the Hellbender.  Debuting on the Hellbender are Smittybilt’s Apollo front and rear bumpers which seamlessly integrate and protect the Alpine HCE-2600FD4 multi-view front camera and the HCE-2100RD4 multi-view rear camera (cameras sold separately from the bumpers).  The cameras are IP68 rated so they’re protected from dust and water immersion.  The Alpine KCX-C250MC multi-camera selector allows the camera images to be controlled and switched from the X209-WRA-OR’s touch screen.  The Hellbender’s aggressive profile is highlighted by the custom exoskeleton that wraps around the vehicle and integrates with the Smittybilt rockers on the door steps.

For peace of mind away from home, the X209-WRA-OR works with the Alpine Connect app which links through subscription to Chamberlain Group’s MyQ app.  MyQ offers control and monitoring of home elements including Chamberlain® and LiftMaster® garage door openers, as well as smart lighting and other devices, and its partnership with Alpine is the first of its kind with an aftermarket electronics manufacturer.  This collaboration represents Alpine’s first step into the Internet of Things (IoT).

Other Smittybilt products on the Hellbender include SRC Gen 2 front and rear doors, Apollo fender flares, and the Stingray hood.  Procomp products on the Hellbender include Apex wheels, Xtreme MT2 tires (37x12.50R17), short arm suspension, head lights, and roof lights.

Fun on Arrival

The Hellbender is ready for fun when it arrives at its destination.  Two PWD-CB1 Alpine ICE (In-Cooler Entertainment) sit on a delivery platform that motorizes out from the bed and to the tailgate at a 90° angle, ready to distribute cold drinks.  Music streamed via the Alpine ICE’s Bluetooth connection is played through the cooler’s 180-watt sound system. When used at events, the Hellbender can send souvenirs to the crowd using the t-shirt gun turret installed on the roof.  A Ricoh Theta S 360° view camera is also installed on the roof to capture the crowd’s reaction at events.

The Hellbender was built by Define Customs of Orange, CA.  The vehicle is on display at the SEMA Show in the Smittybilt booth (South Hall, #35061) and will be used at Alpine consumer and retailer events throughout 2018.

Detroit -- October 29, 2019 – Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. will attend the 2019 SEMA Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada from Tuesday, November 5 – Friday, November 8 along with an anticipated 70,000 industry professionals.

Alpine will join aftermarket truck and SUV accessory supplier, Smittybilt, in South Hall Upper in the Powersports & Utility Vehicles section (booth #35061) where they will give product demonstrations in Alpine’s new 2020 Jeep® Gladiator, Switchback.

Switchback is loaded with Alpine’s 9-inch X409-WRA-JL Weather-Resistant Navigation System with Off-Road Mode, a direct-fit solution for the new 2018 – Up Jeep® Wrangler and 2020 Jeep® Gladiator, and a PSS-23WRA Powered System Upgrade.

Drawing from industry research and Voice of Customer technology gathered at national Jeep® events, Alpine was inspired to create a demo vehicle that resonated with the Jeep® community’s weekend trips near or on the beach by creating an interior system designed for top on or off use.

The X409-WRA-JL is a direct-fit dash solution made up of a large, 9-inch screen housed in a matching trim bezel that’s resistant to weather and various outdoor elements like sand and dirt. The high-visibility screen can adjust to high or low-light driving conditions for cleaner, brighter images even with the top off.

The PSS-23WRA sound system solution is also weather-resistant and designed for excellent sound performance with the top on or off. The included PWE-S8 Powered Subwoofer is installed under the passenger’s seat to maximize bass extension throughout the Jeep and deliver a front and center sound stage for optimized performance.

Following Alpine’s recent move to their new headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan, the Brand Business Unit, originally located in Torrance, California, engaged Alpine’s OEM Unit to collaborate on the build and promote an increasing synergy within company operations. Elements of the build were utilized from products designed by the OEM unit.

The tailgate is designed to look like an early Alpine stereo, with a large functional volume knob and six classic “Alpine green” buttons on the faceplate to control the automation. The bed houses a motorized assembly with 40 Bluetooth® speakers that articulate for optimal sound positioning. Three 12-inch R-Series subwoofers are also installed in the bed for bass extension and increased volume. LED lights are placed around the speaker installation for added aesthetic.

The intention of the build is to deliver an exceptional interior experience that can extend to the exterior of the vehicle, for continued entertainment inside or outside of the Jeep®, no matter the weather conditions. Additional collaborators include Smittybilt, Pro Comp, Rubicon Express, and G2 Axle and Gear.

Outside of SEMA, Switchback will be touring with the Alpine Event Truck and Trailer at Jeep lifestyle events. For more information on Alpine’s event schedule, follow Alpine-USA on Facebook for updates on future events.

Best-in-class DSP-enabled amplifiers, vital OEM integration tools and much more make ultimate sound quality attainable for nearly every vehicle

Seattle, Wash., October 23rd, 2019 – AudioControl (audiocontrol.com), makers of innovative high-performance audio solutions for the residential, commercial and automotive markets has announced that they will be showcasing a full lineup of premium aftermarket car audio products at the 2019 SEMA tradeshow in Las Vegas, Booth 11665 North Hall. Highlighted new models include 5-channel amplifiers with 1300 watts of total system power and available DSP. Additionally, AudioControl will introduce several new Load Generating Devices (LGD’s) that enable technicians to add aftermarket audio components to a wide range of OEM entertainment systems from Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep and Maserati.

"Our newest amplifiers and LDG’s open up significant opportunities for our dealers, and we are very excited to showcase them at the upcoming SEMA show,” stated Chris Bennett, National Sales Director - Mobile at AudioControl. “Additionally, these new products round out the most compelling full line of aftermarket car audio products available from any brand, including premium amplifiers from 1 to 6-channels, our legendary DM-RTA audio analyzer and OEM integration solutions that represent vital opportunities to deliver best sound quality for each customer."

New 5-Channel Amplifiers
Two new 5-channel amplifiers from AudioControl both offer 125 watts X4-channels RMS at 4-Ohm (200watts RMS X4 at 2-Ohm) and 500 watts X1-channel at 2-Ohm along with eight speaker level inputs with selectable summing capability. The D-5.1300 delivers onboard DSP control of all amplified outputs and a pair of low-level outputs as well. The DSP interface is managed by the highly intuitive DM Smart App designed for all of AudioControl’s DSP amplifiers. The LC-5.1300 offers the same outstanding specs and performance without the DSP features.

OEM integration with two new Load Generating Devices (LGD)
Most new vehicles use a class D amplifier platform in their factory sound systems. These amplifiers can become unstable when they are connected to aftermarket audio equipment, causing system noise and overall compatibility issues. In order to maximize the upgrade opportunity for 12-volt retailers, AudioControl engineers created the LGD series of solutions, which seamlessly interfaces these newer OEM systems with aftermarket amplifiers. The AudioControl AC-LGD20 was designed specifically for Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep and Maserati audio systems without an amplifier. The AC-LGD60 provides interface capability for these same vehicles that feature audio systems with an amplifier.

DM-RTA
The AudioControl DM-RTA is a sophisticated yet compact audio analyzer containing powerful analysis software designed to provide installers with the features of a fully functioning Oscilloscope, Voltage Meter, Real Time Audio Analyzer (RTA), SPL Meter and Polarity Checker. Because installers are often on-the-go and in cramped spaces when building a car audio system, the DM-RTA was designed to be light weight, compact and durable. Input/output options are staggering, including balanced XLR inputs, phono and RCA style unbalanced inputs as well as speaker level inputs designed to make OEM audio system interface a snap. Digital audio output options include Optical, COAX and USB. The DM-RTA is powered by a 5-hour rechargeable battery so that it can be effortlessly deployed anywhere.

SEMA showcases the best and brightest from the automotive aftermarket, and AudioControl’s booth in the North Hall was ground zero for the finest audio products at the event. AudioControl and Mobile Solutions also hosted an after-hours training event, the fourth consecutive year that the companies have collaborated, that was filled to capacity at the Orleans Hotel.

"The facility at the Orleans worked out very well for our co-hosted event—we were able to accommodate more than 150 attendees in a classroom-style setting in addition to seating for casual conversation and networking,” stated Chris Bennett, National Sales Director - Mobile at AudioControl. Bennett opened the event by welcoming everyone to the expansive taco bar, then turned it over to National Sales Trainer Matthew Palumbo for some valuable insights on new AudioControl products before all eyes and ears were tuned to a Mobile Solutions Fabrication Demo with Bryan Schmitt, Gary Bell and Chris Pate. Nearly all of the event attendees remained long past the training and enjoyed the after-hours festivities and camaraderie until closing. “AudioControl and Mobile Solutions thank all who attended and are already planning next year’s event, so we encourage our dealers to mark their calendars—see you in 2020!”

AudioControl Showcases New 5-Channel Amplifiers

AudioControl is a leading designer and manufacturer of innovative high-performance audio solutions for the residential, commercial and automotive markets since 1977. Based in Seattle, Wash., AudioControl offers premium quality home theater and whole-house entertainment products, distributed audio amplifiers for commercial applications and a legacy of outstanding car audio processors, amplifiers and OEM interface solutions sold and installed worldwide by qualified professionals. From Nov. 3 to 6, AVIDWORX and Race Sport will be showing off a new series of branded showcases, available in three sizes and configurations for retailers - Basic, Plus and Pro.

Authorized Race Sport retailers will benefit from an educational and interactive Customer Experience Center built by AVIDWORX, drawing more attention to your lighting category.

As well, retailers will get a rebate of over 25% on the showcases themselves -- including a monitor that broadcasts educational video and a mediaWORX media player that captures real-time showroom analytics.

Race Sport will also help authorized retailers to recoup their showcase investment over time through an innovative dealer incentive program. More details on the program are available at AVIDWORX.com/racesport/.

"Race Sport truly is a visionary company when it comes to design and product development, and we're excited to work with them, and with their retailers to draw more attention to the brand," said Marcel Newell, president of AVIDWORX. "Lighting is a fast-growing category in many markets, but many retailers still aren't showing it in an interactive way that increases sales. We're going to change that."

Basic showcases start at $999, or $27/month - once a rebate of $278 is applied upon proof of installation. Add a second and third showcase to increase display space for additional savings of $200 and $400 respectively.

Retailers can save even more if they bundle with other product displays - 10% on showcases and up to 100% off shipping!

To see the showcases for yourself, drop by booth #11849, opposite the Mazda booth in the North Hall. SEMA takes place at the Las Vegas Convention Center (www.semashow.com).

Holly Hill, Fla. – October 31, 2023 – Axxess® by Metra Electronics® has expanded its product line to include additional vehicle applications for popular integration solutions and will showcase these new products at the SEMA show. Launching at the show are new vehicle-specific DSP packages, MOST25 audio system interfaces, Total Control series interfaces, a backup camera retention harness, interfaces designed for Pioneer® radios, OnStar® retention interfaces, and more. These new automotive accessories will be displayed from October 31 to November 3 in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center at Metra's main SEMA Show booth, #10539. These new integration accessories are designed to help installers deliver upgraded sound systems and everyday convenience to drivers.

DSP Packages

Axxess's new DSPL and DSPX packages include applications to fit select GM vehicles and a much-anticipated integration for 2021-up* Teslas with amplified systems. This package will be among the first of its kind in the industry, designed specifically to upgrade the audio system of this vehicle brand. These DSP packages include amplifier bypass harnesses and feature combined digital signal processor and data interface technologies that allow installers to upgrade their music experience and customize their sound system. The DSP is designed to integrate with factory audio systems and retain factory chimes and voice prompts. Axxess's DSPL series provides six channels of output and a 15-band graphic EQ per channel, while the DSPX series features 10 channels of output and a selectable 31-band graphic EQ or 5-band parametric EQ per channel. Both products offer selectable crossover slopes, feature independent equalization for each output, and the ability to read, write, and store configurations for future recall. All tuning is done via Bluetooth® wireless technology in a free downloadable app for smartphones and tablets. The Axxess app is compatible with both Android® and Apple® devices.

MOST25 Interfaces

Axxess is debuting new interfaces designed for vehicles with MOST25 amplified audio systems. These interfaces provide accessory 12-volt power, parking brake, reverse, and speed sense NAV outputs, retain audio controls on the steering wheel, and are micro “B” USB updatable.

New applications include the following vehicles:

  • 2004-2013 BMW 1 Series and 3 Series
  • 2006-2012 Land Rover and Range Rover
  • 2005-2009 Land Rover 3 and Range Rover Sport
  • 2003-2008 Mercedes CLS, E, and SLK
  • 2006-2011 Mercedes GL, ML, SLK, and E
  • 2002-2007 and 2007-2010 Porsche Cayenne
  • 2004-2009 Porsche 911, Boxster, and Cayman

Total Control Interfaces

Two new interfaces have been added to Axxess's Total Control Series, designed for use when replacing the radio in the 2009-2016 Porsche and the 2016-up* Mercedes. These products utilize patented auto-detect technology that automatically detects the vehicle type, radio connection, and preset controls while allowing the ability to dual-assign steering wheel controls. They provide wires for multimedia radios (parking brake, reverse, speed sense), accessory power, a 12-volt illumination output, and retaining R.A.P., balance, and fade. The Axxess Total Control Series is a universal solution designed to work with all major radio brands and can be manually programmed for most vehicles. They will retain memory settings even after battery disconnection or interface removal.

Backup Camera Retention Interface

Axxess will also display a new backup camera retention interface for the 2008-2015 Volkswagen. This interface allows the factory camera to be used with an aftermarket radio. A convenient, plug-n-play design saves integrators time since cutting wires is not required for installation.

Pioneer Radio Interfaces

Axxess is introducing various vehicle-specific interfaces at SEMA for installing select Pioneer® radio models. With these interfaces, vehicle information and settings controlled on the factory screen are retained, displayed, and controlled on the Pioneer® touchscreen. These displays, such as HVAC functions, would otherwise be lost after replacing the head unit. The built-in integration technology from Axxess also retains safety chimes through an included offboard speaker, retains audio controls on the steering wheel, retains R.A.P. (Retained Accessory Power), and provides 12-volt 10-amp accessory power and NAV output for parking brake, reverse, and speed sense. These interfaces allow for auto stop/start override, if equipped, and the retention and adjustment of the OE Personalization Settings. Total Control interfaces are installed with easy plug-n-play connectivity, and a radio antenna adapter and an antenna adapter for GPS are included. New interfaces launching at SEMA include applications for:

  • 2013-Up* Chrysler
  • 2021-Up* Chrysler
  • 2010-2017 GM
  • 2014-Up* GM
  • 2019-Up* GM
  • 2011-Up* Ford
  • 2020-Up* Ford
  • 2015-Up* VW

OnStar® Retention Interfaces

Two new interfaces will debut at SEMA designed specifically for the 1997-2005 Cadillac with amplified systems and the 2004-2007 Saturn with non-amplified audio systems. These interfaces will retain OnStar® functionality, chimes, balance and fade, and R.A.P. (retained accessory power). They also provide NAV outputs, including parking brake, reverse, speed sense, and 12-volt 10-amp accessory power.

Turn-on Interface

The AXTO-MAX interface is designed to fit 2016-up* Nissan Maximas with amplified systems. Interfaces from this series are intended for vehicles that require a data signal to turn on OEM amplifiers, retain rear seat entertainment, and more. This new interface will retain the factory backup camera, the audible parking sensor warning, the factory AUX-IN jack, and balance. It also provides accessory power (12-volt 10-amp) and wires for multimedia radios (park brake, reverse, speed sense). This interface can be paired with the AXSWC steering wheel control interface (sold separately), and a pre-wired AXSWC harness is included.

Add-a-Sub Interfaces

Various new interfaces from Axxess's Add-a-Sub series will be introduced at SEMA to fit select Chrysler, Ford, and GM vehicles. These interfaces have 2-channel non-fading 5V RMS output, a fixed low pass frequency of 234Hz, and 250mA remote turn-on output. There are options designed for amplified and non-amplified vehicles, and a bass knob & vehicle-specific harness are included. New applications to be displayed at SEMA include:

  • 2007-2018 Chrysler
  • 2013-Up* Chrysler

OXNARD, Calif., September 13, 2021 – BOSS Audio Systems, a leader and innovator in Powersports audio and video products, have decided not to participate in this year’s SEMA Convention in Las Vegas, NV due to current health and safety concerns, as well as the health and well-being of their employees. SEMA Opposes Proposed Internal Combustion Engine Ban

DIAMOND BAR, Calif. (Sept. 24, 2020) -- California Governor Gavin Newsom issued a controversial Executive Order this week instructing the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to draft regulations requiring that all new cars and passenger trucks sold in the state be zero-emissions by 2035.

Once drafted, CARB’s proposed regulations will be subject to a lengthy regulatory process, including legal, economic, and environmental analyses, public comment and hearings. The Governor’s order is also expected to face numerous legal challenges from opponents.

“SEMA is deeply disappointed in Governor Newsom’s decision to escalate his ongoing feud with the Trump Administration at the expense of the consumer and California’s small businesses,” said Daniel Ingber, SEMA vice president of government and legal affairs. “SEMA will work with the industry and enthusiasts in opposing the Governor’s proposal on all fronts.”

According to the California Energy Commission, zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) currently make up approximately two percent of the over 28-million vehicles in use in the Golden State. It is estimated that at least 8 percent of new vehicle sales in California will be ZEVs and plug-in hybrids by 2025.

California’s ZEV program falls within the state’s greenhouse gas rule that is being challenged in court by the Trump Administration. The federal government is seeking to withdraw EPA recognition of the California rule under the Clean Air Act because it effectively establishes fuel economy standards which are the sole jurisdiction of the federal government. The challenge could eventually be decided by the Supreme Court.

SEMA, the Specialty Equipment Market Association, founded in 1963, represents the $46.2 billion specialty automotive industry. The industry provides appearance, performance, comfort, convenience and technology products for passenger and recreational vehicles. Association resources include market research, legislative advocacy, training and product development support, as well as leading trade shows such as the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, NV, and the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Trade Show in Indianapolis, IN. LAS VEGAS, Nev. – November 6, 2018 – Razo / Car Mate USA was recognized with 2018 Global Media Award(s) this week at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas for its d’Action 360 Dash/Action Camera.

“We are honored to have the Razo d’Action 360 dash camera selected as a Global Media Award recipient,” said Junpei Tomonaga, President & CEO of Razo / CarMate U.S.A. “Our new 360 degree dash camera will help drivers record what is occurring in front and around them while driving, all with a single device. It's the perfect drivers safety companion."

The SEMA Global Media Awards Program recognizes those companies that manufacture specialty equipment products and accessories that would have mass appeal to consumers in countries outside the United States. The products are voted on by a prestigious group of international journalists who serve as judges.

“The idea of customization and personalization has been growing throughout world,” said Linda Spencer, SEMA director of international and government relations. "Our goal is to have media experts from around the world determine which new products are likely to succeed in their home markets. The automotive specialty-equipment market is made up of enthusiasts who are passionate about the hobby, and so it’s exciting to see how their love for cars, trucks and SUVs is impacting those throughout the world.”

This year’s program included about 30 judges from 19 countries. Each judge carefully reviewed and evaluated nearly 3,000 product entries at the SEMA Show before selecting the products that they felt would resonate and appeal most to consumers in their home countries.
