4-23-2018 Mobile Electronics -- Getting dealers out of their shops and easing installers out of their old habits is the calling card of Mobile Solutions which offers support, motivation, and inspiration to all

Being on top of your game today, whether you’re a dealer, manufacturer, or installer, requires a readiness to accept the old, manage the present, and prepare for the future.

Many folks—and everyone is guilty of it at some point --get stuck in a rut and just rely on doing things the same old way they have always been done. But eventually people want to make a change—and that is how Bryan Schmitt, president and lead trainer of Tempe, Ariz.-based Mobile Solutions, makes his living. He gets individuals to leave their offices, shops, and install bays to figure out how to do things smarter.

Through his educational company Schmitt has created tools and training sessions—signature four-day boot camps—so that his students—who are technicians, fabricators, and retailers-- can leave with a level of professionalism and sense of pride they may not have had before.

While Mobile Solutions offers a range of... Read the rest of the story HERE.

Master Tech Subwoofer Bootcamp to include tips and techniques from Yato’s iconic builds

TEMPE, ARIZ., June 17, 2019 (MEDIAWIRE) – Mobile Solutions, leading installation and fabrication trainer for the mobile electronics industry, announced that its next Master Tech Subwoofer Bootcamp, scheduled for July 27-30 at its Tempe, Ariz., facility, will feature one of the industry’s most storied fabricators. Chris Yato, who is currently Interior Fabrication Group Leader / Senior Fabrication Technician at American Honda Motor Corporation, will rejoin the aftermarket for the informative four-day session.

The Mobile Solutions Master Tech Subwoofer Bootcamp focuses on design concepts, technical considerations and build components to create enclosures that integrate with the vehicle and optimize the sound quality of the installed subwoofers. The class delves into the use of wood, metal and other materials to ensure a stylish, audible addition that will stand up to the rigors of the automotive environment.

Yato made his mark as a senior fabricator at Alpine Electronics, where he and design partner Steve Brown crafted some the industry’s most iconic builds for road and water. During their tenure, the Consumer Electronics Show served as the unveiling platform for their latest work, making Room N101 in the North Hall one of the most anticipated exhibits to visit during the show.

As part of the curriculum, Yato will show and break down some of his most popular builds, detailing the whys behind design and build decisions as well as previously unknown techniques used to achieve some of their most unique characteristics. He will also talk with attendees about their own work and impart proven strategies for improving skill and design.

Other components of the July session will be taught by some of the industry’s top fabricators, including Gary Bell, Juan “JT” Torres and Tom Miller. Garry Springgay, acoustics engineer and owner of Cogent Audio Labs in Mesa, Ariz., will lead a discussion of practical acoustics, and Phoenix-based metal fabrication artist Jim Shaner will instruct attendees on TIG welding and metal-forming techniques.

“Every year before CES, the talk would always be about what vehicle or boat Alpine would show in their booth,” said Bryan Schmitt, founder and lead instructor for Mobile Solutions. “And people would keep talking about Chris’ and Steve’s work for months after. Seeing those builds, as well as some of the builds Chris performed later at 5 Axis really inspired the industry and encouraged installers to expand their fabrication skills. Having Chris attend our next subwoofer class is a real honor and an event our attendees will never forget.” For more information on Mobile Solutions training, please visit mobilesolutions-usa.com/training.

July 20, 2016 -- Today’s installations range from the extremely complex and ultra expensive to the more basic and economical. Either way, creativity and countless man hours go into each job. The key then for any 12-volt retailer is to balance it all and make the process profitable.

Bryan Schmitt, president of Tempe, Ariz.-based Mobile Solutions, who started out in 1990 as a car audio fabricator, recognized early on how challenging these custom jobs could be. Each time, for each job and for each car, the wheel had to be reinvented.

“Back when I started out we didn’t really have a lot of resources and the biggest thing with working on cars is we didn’t have some type of template or clean geometry,” Schmitt said. “We were always cutting with cardboard and using a jigsaw and I just had this inspiration.”

Not surprisingly, it was prompted in part by Schmitt’s education. “My background before I even got into car audio was mechanical engineering,” he said. “I knew that using geometry was the key for making clean shapes and keeping the automotive DNA, if you will.”

In the beginning, Schmitt kept things basic. He started making some simple templates—circles and ovals—which helped him personally with his fabrication work. “I was able to take geometry and use it on an install. I started building cars that were completely symmetrical using a template like what you would use if you were drafting, except these were full size and for cars.”

In 1996, Schmitt was recruited to work for Rockford Corporation’s fabrication training group, RTTI, where he was responsible for building show vehicles—some of which garnered industry awards including a prestigious CES Best of Show. By 2003, he was Director of Technical Development for a national 12-volt retailer.

Soon after, in 2005, Schmitt was ready to take the next step and founded Mobile Solutions. He started working on developing more shapes for the templates. “I wanted to share it with the industry because I thought there was a market for it and I knew it would help people,” he said.

Shaping Up

The circles and ovals soon developed into arcs and more complex shapes like comets and triangles, until there was a full lineup. “It has been exciting over the years to see it grow and to see how it has affected the industry, and even changed it because of the efficiency,” Schmitt said. Today, the company offers more than 400 SKUs (stock keeping units) and over 50 different styles of templates.

“The shapes we offer now are cool, but to bring things up to date, we’re building templates that really match a lot of the automobiles,” Schmitt said. “For instance, take some of the grilles out there—like for an Audi or a Lexus. That shape, that DNA, can be used on the inside of the car for a subwoofer box or an amp rack, or whatever. To take it a step further, we’ve made templates that are completely modular. You can put them together like an adjustable template or like an erector set where you can completely manipulate and change the shape. It just speeds up the process so you can get more creative in a short period of time.”

New Roller Coaster Ride “West Coast Racers” Features Mobile Solutions Tools

TEMPE, Ariz., March 3, 2020 — Mobile Solutions announces it expanded its long-running partnership with West Coast Customs (WCC) by providing fabrication tools for the new West Coast Racers roller coaster ride at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, CA. Mobile Solutions and WCC have been partners for many years as WCC uses MS tools and Smart Templates™ for numerous high-visibility vehicle customization projects, many of which have appeared on television.

The WCC-themed roller coaster ride, which opened to the public January 9, 2020, features mocked up vignettes that replicate the various shop areas at the real West Coast Customs facility in Burbank, CA. The idea is to give riders the feeling that they’re touring the WCC shop seeing the tools and experiencing what happens as vehicles are built. Riders travel through the metal shop, paint booth and fabrication areas. Bryan Schmitt of Mobile Solutions commented “This is a proud moment for our company seeing our tools on the wall and staged just like the WCC shop for millions to see every year.” It’s estimated 12 million people will ride West Coast Racers every year.

Schmitt and his team recently met with West Coast Customs Founder and CEO Ryan Friedlinghaus at the WCC company headquarters to hear Ryan’s vision on the roller coaster and how it’s taken over eight years to turn the idea into reality. Schmitt and his team were then escorted by Kenny Williams, WCC’s Operations Manager, along with a other WCC team members to the Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park where they all enjoyed a VIP tour of the ride and, of course, experienced the roller coaster firsthand. During the three-minute ride, each of the two cars running takes a pause and pulls into a replica of the West Coast Customs shop to listen to a narration given by Ryan [Friedlinghaus] before moving back on to the tracks.

Bryan Schmitt and his team thank Ryan Friedlinghaus and Kenny Williams for the inclusion of Mobile Solutions in the West Coast Racers project. “Kenny has really been our ambassador to being closely involved with both the WCC shop and the roller coaster ride. We enjoy working with West Coast Customs and look forward to continuing the relationship and having even more of our products involved in the ride” remarks Schmitt.

Mobile Solutions, premier technical installation training center and supplier of fabrication tools and solutions for the mobile electronics industry, announced that July 2015 marks the company’s 10-year anniversary of its founding. The decade achievement sees the Tempe, Ariz.,-based company training more than 1,500 installation technicians per year and distributing professional tools and accessories to retail businesses worldwide.

Ten years ago, former Rockford Fosgate employee Bryan Schmitt sat out to create a unique training experience separate from the burgeoning growth of installation centers and vocational programs that were defining the industry’s educational framework. Noting that almost all available training centered on basic installation and theory and were focused on beginning to novice technicians, Schmitt determined that Mobile Solutions would cater to the professional installer, elevating existing expertise with time-saving procedures and specialized techniques that enhanced the creativity of any installation.

Within a few years, most installation schools closed due to the economic collapse and reluctance of banks to offer financing to students. When Rockford’s own RTTI training center shuttered to new students, the audio manufacturer enlisted Mobile Solutions to take its training on the road. The one-year, 20-city tour put Schmitt in front of hundreds of professionals, and turned his fledgling company into a destination for professionals looking to hone their craft.

“When we first started, there were a few really talented guys doing great things with fabrication,” said Schmitt. “My goal with Mobile Solutions was to show other professional technicians that they could do it as well—on projects big and small and in a minimal, profitable amount of time—using the right techniques and tools.”

To support the goal, Schmitt put his mechanical engineering background to work, designing and producing fabrication-specific tools in-house. It was part of an initial plan to take 10 tools to International CES to help technicians improve creativity and save installation rime. The explosion of interest and sales prompted the company to expand the line, as well as source other fabrication materials to support a “one-stop-shop” model. Today, Mobile Solutions distributes more than 400 SKUs to installation technicians around the world.

“In ten years, this business has grown from my wife Michele and myself to four awesome employees and a great group of industry friends who assist me in training classes,” Schmitt said. “I’ve traveled to over 40 countries to train and it’s been a blast. We are so grateful to the manufacturers, retailers and installation technicians who have supported Mobile Solutions. And while I am truly blessed to be around great people, I feel even more fulfilled that Mobile Solutions has helped thousands of professionals improve their expertise and livelihoods, and enabled them to provide a better quality of life for their families.”

Largest show presence in the company’s history includes expanded booth, three brands, education partnerships

LAS VEGAS, November 6, 2019 (MEDIAWIRE) – “When we first showed at SEMA, this whole side of the North Hall was filled with mobile electronics companies,” remembered Bryan Schmitt of his then-fledgling brand’s first foray into the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show landscape. As president and founder of Mobile Solutions, it was the next step in developing legitimacy for the training, fabrication tools and professional consumables offered by the company from its Tempe, Ariz., facility.

Now, a decade and-a-half later, Mobile Solutions has built a model that caters to the automotive aftermarket as a whole, positioning its wares in North Hall booth No. 11004—just outside of the enormous Snap-On booth—yet still within scope of the scant five aisles that make up the Mobile Electronics section. “SEMA has always been a great show for us,” added Schmitt. “The show brings together retailers and technicians who have true love affair with cars. It gives us more time to talk with individual customers and we expose our brand to this large group of professional enthusiasts.”

Triple the Space, Triple the Brands

Mobile Solutions is marking its 15th year at SEMA with the largest booth in its history. The expanded space is by no means as large as its automotive tooling neighbor, yet it possesses more than enough space to present the brand’s evolution over 15 years. Slat walls and counters showcase a full array of templates, tools and accessories that all share the goal of fulfilling any creative vision in the most efficient way possible.

The larger space was also necessary because what was one brand has now become three. In October 2018, Mobile Solutions acquired Built In Radar to offer a line of calibration tools and mounting templates to custom-install components from the industry’s most popular radar and laser detection brands. And earlier this year, the company entered into a joint venture to develop and sell SoundShield, a full line of sound-deadening material that minimizes automotive interior noise to optimize audio system performance.

Taking Education on the Road

As teaching professional technicians and fabricators is a major component of Mobile Solutions’ business, it is also a large part of the company’s presence in Las Vegas during SEMA. For the fourth year running, Mobile Solutions has paired up with amplifier and sound processing manufacturer AudioControl to host an after-hours training November 7 at the nearby Orleans Hotel and Casino. The event will showcase the latest products and selling strategies from AudioControl as well as time-saving fabrication demonstrations by Schmitt and guest instructors. The organizers anticipate close to 300 attendees.

Also on the teaching calendar are a pair of sessions in the SEMA Education series geared toward customizers of hot rods and vehicle interiors. On November 6, Schmitt will join Gary Bell, owner of Orange, Calif.-based Define Concepts, to teach attendees how to conceptualize, design and create custom interiors for today’s vehicles. November 7 will feature a specialized session from the pair focused on hot rods and resto-mods. The SEMA Education series classes are free and open to all SEMA attendees.

Students to Siblings

Part of the company’s business model is to develop long-lasting relationships with students who go through any of Mobile Solutions’ Master Tech training courses. This is accomplished through a robust social media presence as well as constant communication with former students about new tools, tech tips and upcoming courses. Another powerful component of Mobile Solutions’ rapport-building process is its partnerships with some of the industry’s most renowned fabricators, several of which have been awarded Installer of the Year by Mobile Electronics magazine.

As a result, Mobile Solutions’ show floor space is packed for most of the show, and Schmitt expects another vigorous outing for its 15th year. “Every year we get excited about coming to SEMA,” he said. “Not only do we get to meet new people but it’s also like an expanded family reunion. Our students and customers are like family to us. Without them, we definitely would not be celebrating our 15th year at SEMA.”

KENWOOD, ESCORT and ADS team up to provide M.E.S.A. techs with MasterTech instruction

TEMPE, ARIZ., April 25, 2019 (MEDIAWIRE) – Mobile Solutions welcomed installation technicians from participating retailers of the Mobile Electronics Specialists of America (M.E.S.A.) buying group, April 11-13, to attend a special MasterTech class on the conjunction of three products lines. KENWOOD, worldwide producer of premium car audio components, and ESCORT, renowned radar and laser detection product manufacturer, sponsored the three-day session, which also included technology partner Automotive Data Solutions (ADS).

KENWOOD produces 59 multimedia receivers that can integrate with ESCORT’s iX Ci and MAX Ci installed driver alert platforms thanks to iDataLink Maestro integration module by ADS. The integration enables users to control the features of the detector as well as get notifications of speed-monitoring police presence in front or behind the vehicle, depending on the types and placement of sensors.

Attending M.E.S.A. group technicians received in-depth product instruction from the three brands on the mechanics of the integration, how to access features of the ESCORT detector through the KENWOOD multimedia receiver, and strategies for selling customers on the integrated user experience.

Mobile Solutions has been the chosen training partner for prominent brands since 2011. Currently, the company works with nine manufacturers that, through their financial and product sponsorship, have enabled hundreds of their retail professionals to attend training in Arizona.

Attendees also learned core concepts of the Mobile Solutions MasterTech training, including working with different dash materials, shaping techniques and time-saving installation and fabrication procedures. Each attendee produced and took home a class project that included an ESCORT radar control center housed in the ESCORT template kit from Mobile Solutions' Built In Radar brand.

“It was a fun class,” said Bryan Schmitt, president and lead instructor of Mobile Solutions, of the three-day training. “It's always great when accomplished, professional technicians and fabricators become inquisitive and enthusiastic students who want to learn even more to better themselves and their stores. We've enjoyed doing this for more than 15 years and are proud to teach over 1,000 students each year. We appreciate the trust and confidence that KENWOOD and ESCORT have demonstrated in selecting Mobile Solutions to train the professionals who provide product fulfillment to their customers.”

Mobile Solutions is scheduled to hold a subwoofer design and fabrication training as part of its MasterTech instruction series, July 27-30. Finally Control Dust Coming Off of Router Bits When Fabricating

TEMPE, Ariz. -- August 24, 2020 — Mobile Solutions announces the release of the Dust Shield™; a patent-pending router table accessory intended to re-direct dust particles ejected out of the router bit back into the vacuum area, thereby minimizing airborne dust. Made from high-impact plastic, the Dust Shield reduces airborne dust up to 40%. This provides a significant benefit to keeping vehicles and neighboring tools or machinery cleaner during times of fabrication. It also keeps the router table surface safer when moving material through the router bit. Less airborne dust is always better.

The Dust Shield is attached with five (5) N52 1/2” neodymium magnets in the base and mates to any Jessem ‘Rout-R-Lift’ series router lift with a phenolic top plate. Included in the package are two (2) additional N52 neodymium magnets intended to be the receiver magnets inserted into the router lift’s top plate. “This method of attachment allows easy placement of the dust shield in multiple orientations relative to the work piece” remarks Mobile Solutions President, Bryan Schmitt. Since there is a single magnet attachment point, the Dust Shield can remain in that orientation, but easily pivot out of the way should the work piece touch the shield. “The magnetic attachment and ability to pivot means the fabricator never has to remove their hands from the work piece, which benefits safety as well as the obvious advantage of reducing airborne dust” continued Schmitt.

The Dust Shield is an ideal router table accessory for any fabricator using the Jessem ‘Rout-R-Lift’ router lift systems and Schmitt said about 80% of the Jessem router lifts Mobile Solutions sells work with it. “While some fabricators have a dedicated wood shop to minimize dust in the vehicle work area that would benefit, the Dust Shield is especially helpful for smaller shops fabricating in the same space as the vehicle work takes place” added Schmitt. Any Jessem ‘Rout-R-Lift’ application with a dust collection system, whether in a dedicated router table or bench-mounted into a table saw outfeed table, will benefit from and work with the Dust Shield.

Dust Shield Features:

  • Up to 40 percent greater dust particle reduction by vacuum suction back into the bit area
  • Directional positioning – maximize the dust suction based on the size of the work piece
  • Fits any Jessem ’Rout-R-Lift™’ or ‘Rout-R-Lift II™’ router lift system
  • Integrated mounting with five (5) 1/2 inch N52 neodymium magnets
  • Includes two (2) additional N52 neodymium magnet inserts for the router lift surface
  • Works with any dust collection system connected to a table or bench-mounted router

Advantages of using Dust Shield:

  • Cleaner and safer work surface on the router table
  • Less airborne dust to worry about getting on cars and tools
  • Great solution for open area work spaces, especially routers mounted on an open bench and not in a dedicated wood/fab room
  • No stationary mounting means the magnets allow the Dust Shield to move or slide if the work piece makes contact

The Dust Shield router table accessory is in stock at Mobile Solutions and shipping now. Special launch pricing of $49.99 is offered for a limited time by using the coupon code “Dustshield” upon checkout at www.mobilesolutions-USA.com.

Additional 1,800 square feet makes room for more production and dedicated training rooms

Mobile Solutions, premier trainer and supplier of efficiency tools and solutions for the modern technician and fabricator, is taking its production capability to another level with the addition of a commercial-scale CNC (Computer Numerical Control) router. The new 8,000-pound machine effectively triples manufacture rates and possibly opens the door for a CNC class for select students in the future.

The Mobile Solutions facility was expanded in late 2015 by annexing its neighboring suite, increasing the floor plan to 6,800 square feet to add a formal classroom area. The floor plan is going through a second, less drastic modification to accommodate the new CNC and create separate rooms for research / development and production. The company's original, smaller CNC will be used to prototype designs and provide overflow production capability, while the newer machine will manufacture the majority of sellable products.

"We are very pleased with our sales growth over the past couple of years," said Bryan Schmitt, president and lead instructor at Mobile Solutions. "The new machine enables us to increase production almost threefold. Also, with its expanded capability we can design more unique products and complicated projects to stay up-to-date and even ahead of market needs."

After reviewing several options including purchasing a second model of its current CNC, Mobile Solutions chose the C.R. Onsrud model because of its ability to handle large-sized materials, as well as its weight. "I can't stress how important the weight is when mass-producing with precision," explained Schmitt. "A CNC has lots of parts that move and create vibration. So the more mass it has and the stronger it's made, the less vibration it will create and the more accurate the parts will be."

In late January the company completed its second MasterTech Boot camp training session since expanding the facility, welcoming a full class of students for four days to experience the new classroom area, complete with motorized screens and cameras to show detail work. The session, featuring renowned automotive interior designer and fabricator Rommel Medina and Tony D'Amore of D'Amore Engineering as guest presenters, also gave students ample instruction in separate training rooms dedicated to wood, metal, paint and upholstery.

In addition to these classes, Mobile Solutions may teach CNC operation to provide select, dedicated designers a complete roadmap of instruction from conceptual design to mass production.

"The new machine represents a significant investment for us, but it's an investment we feel puts us in the right position in the marketplace, Schmitt added. "Our goal is to continually look forward and be at the cutting edge of technology and innovation, whether it's in the instruction we provide to industry technicians, the products we bring to market or the process and machinery we use to create our products."
