DustMIGHT™ uses router table, dust collection system to create self-cleaning sanding station

TEMPE, ARIZ. – April 17, 2017 (MEDIAWIRE) – Mobile Solutions, creator of products and techniques for automotive aftermarket fabricators, soft-launched its latest innovation at the 2017 KnowledgeFest Spring Training show and conference in Indianapolis, Ind., earlier this month. The DustMIGHT™ Down Draft Insert provides space-challenged shops with a highly manageable sanding surface utilizing the shop's existing router table and dust collection system. The company today announced the DustMIGHT is available to order.

"The number one problem we have when sanding is the creation of dust and particles that get into the air, on the floor and in all of the crevices around the workspace," said Bryan Schmitt, Mobile Solutions founder and inventor of the DustMIGHT. "That means sanding has always been a two-part job: the actual work, and the cleanup afterwards. The DustMIGHT solves that problem, making sanding a one-step job while not taking up any more space on the work surface."

The DustMIGHT Down Draft Insert is designed to utilize the existing router table space, eliminating the need for a dedicated sanding area. The fabricator removes the router and fits the pre-formed base of the DustMIGHT into the standard-sized opening.

The 17.5x23.5-inch sanding surface of the DustMIGHT features lines of descending-diameter openings that feed into a series of air channels between the underside and surface. While sanding, the suction of the dust collection system pulls debris from the sanding surface through the channels for collection. This concurrent action means fabricators don't need to stop work to clean the work surface.

The DustMIGHT is currently available to order for $169, with shipping beginning May 22. For more information, visit mobilesolutions-usa.com/dustmight, or view it in action at http://bit.ly/caf-dustmight.

Tempe, Arizona, February 16, 2017 – Mobile Solutions USA has announced the latest addition to its Smart Frame System (SFS) fabrication tools: The Animal. Designed to expand upon the existing line of SFS shape creation templates, The Animal allows a variety of 3D shapes to safely and efficiently be fabricated on router table so that trim panels, face plates, speaker adapters and other parts have the professional-grade profiles that support visual and functional elements of factory-like automotive interior design.

Using a 17” x 11-1/2” acrylic shield with laser-etched alignment lines and robust handles as a base, The Animal utilizes side-mounted grid plates to allow secure attachment of multiple SFS rails using the supplied threaded hardware, twist-lock knobs and wrench – all of which are thoughtfully organized in their own inventory tray for effective storage. This "virtually infinite" system of mounting precision-indexed SFS rail components allows the fabricator to set angles for surface machining of parts to realize extreme contours, precision angles or the subtle dimension not able to be simply duplicated by sanding or other (potentially dangerous) router table methods, according to the company.

In addition to The Animal kit, Mobile Solutions also introduces a new surfacing router bit that compliments the latest Smart Frame family member by safely and effectively removing material from the work piece being machined while specifically utilizing The Animal. The surfacing router bit is a 1.5” diameter, 1/2" shank hardened-carbide surface cutter with four cutting blades to maximize cutting efficiency and leave an excellent surface finish requiring virtually no major sanding to prep for vinyl, primer/paint or utilize other finishing methods.

“The Animal came about as a series of process-driven trial techniques in our fabrication training classes over the past several years” explains Mobile Solutions founder Bryan Schmitt. “Since we are a proponent of hands-on fabrication learning, our collaboration with JT Torres ( guest speaker) became evident that safety as well as efficiency was important for our techniques taught to attendees. The Animal system addresses those goals with a near infinite range of possibilities from curved head unit bezels, door and trunk panels with factory-like dimension, angled speaker adapters, contoured plugs for molding metal mesh, and more.”

The Animal kit saves hours of labor from what has traditionally been a time consuming process to build a one-off jig to accomplish a similar task, and safety in the process is always important to observe. With a secure shield, precise alignment grids and mounting holes, as well as the safety and efficiency of repeatable results, The Animal 3D shape creator system is a revolutionary step forward in the interior fabricator’s tool box.

The Animal and surfacing router bit are both available now at the Mobile Solutions website – www.MobileSolutions-USA.com

Innovative Kit for Neodymium Magnet Panel Attachments

TEMPE, Ariz., February 1, 2021 -- Mobile Solutions announces its latest product release: the Magnet Fitment System. It’s a complete, solution-driven kit that aids fabricators in the use and installation of round neodymium magnets in place of traditional door or trim panel clips. “It’s the only kit of its kind” says company founder and president, Bryan Schmitt. He says that using this kit virtually eliminates difficulties commonly experienced when implementing these small, powerful magnets into custom interior and audio system builds.

“The problem when using neodymium magnets for panel attachments is common size drill bits are not precision-sized for a secure press fit and leave an angled bottom of the drilled hole,” Schmitt said. This means the mounting hole (also called the “pocket hole”) ends up larger than round magnet’s outer diameter and without a flat countersink at the bottom of the hole. “A precision, tight fit is critical because of the force of attraction between these magnets.”

In addition, because magnets require a specific polarity orientation to attract to one another (rather than oppose), positioning the magnets with a backward polarity orientation is a common mistake. The Mobile Solutions Magnet Fitment System solves all these problems with a solution-driven approach.

Custom CNC-machined Magnet Match™ countersink bits that are precision-sized for a secure press fit of MS neodymium magnets. This means precision mechanical fitment for most materials with a flat bottom surface. Smart Mag Alignment Plates™ assist with the magnet installation process. These are machined out of 1/2” acrylic with corresponding flush-mounted magnets to ensure North and South polarity orientations are always correct.

Using the Magnet Fitment System is very easy. “It’s as simple as drilling a pilot hole through both surfaces (fixed surface and removable panel), countersinking the magnet pocket hole, embedding the magnet with correct polarity orientation and you’re done,” Schmitt said.

Features:

  • Precision CNC-Machined Magnet Match™ Countersink Bits to match magnet tolerances
  • Countersink Diameter NOMINAL Sizes: 1/4”, 3/8”, 1/2" & 3/4" all with a 3/8” Shank

Router Guides, Sales Tools Make it Easy to Integrate Custom-Installed Radar and Laser Detection Systems

TEMPE, ARIZ. – August 31, 2018 (MEDIAWIRE) – Mobile Solutions, premier training facility and fabrication tools supplier for the mobile electronics industry, announced a new partnership with radar detector producer ESCORT during KnowledgeFest, held August 17-19 in Dallas. Under the agreement, Mobile Solutions will produce an ESCORT-branded template set that enables professional installers to integrate ESCORTs' installed radar and laser detection systems into the vehicle. Mobile Solutions debuted the set at its booth during KnowledgeFest, as well as the ESCORT booth.

The six-piece set is designed to accommodate the company's iX Ci and MAX Ci installed driver alert platforms. Each of the pieces is made from 1/4-inch, machine-grade PVC material, durable enough to stand up to repeated router contact and still ensure a precision cut. Three router guides let professional fabricators create exact openings to flush-mount the control module as well as the two display sizes.  A fourth guide fits the laser shifters into custom mounts for placement in the front or rear of the vehicle.

In addition, two proximity rings serve as sales tools to help retailers explain how police laser interacts with the vehicle. By positioning the rings in front or behind the vehicle, retailers help customers visualize how much of the vehicle surface the laser gun "sees" from 1,000 feet away (larger ring) and 400 feet away (smaller ring).

"This is a new journey for us," said Bryan Schmitt, president and lead designer of Mobile Solutions. "Radar and laser detection is a robust and growing category in our industry. The ability to offer the customer a premium integration and user experience, especially at these higher-than-average price points, is vital. The templates we produce for ESCORT let their installing retailers deliver a fully custom look that also ensures optimum product performance. June 5 session instructors include Bryan Schmitt, Ethan Blau, Ata Ehdaivand

TEMPE, ARIZ., May 21, 2019 (MEDIAWIRE) – On June 5th, Mobile Solutions’ Tempe, Ariz., facility will be the location of the first “Back to School” social media and marketing training. The special session is presented by The Mobile Electronics Syndicate, a Facebook group that caters to retail business, installation and fabrication experts in the mobile electronics industry. The goal of the class is to educate industry professionals on how to strategically deploy social media to build brand awareness and increase store revenues.

Bryan Schmitt, Mobile Solutions president and lead instructor, will take part in the class instruction, as well as the two of the group’s primary administrators, Ethan Blau and Ata Ehdaivand. Jon Kowanetz, owner of Handcrafted Car Audio in Chandler, Ariz., will join the session as a guest speaker.

The Back to School training is focused on using social media as a marketing tool rather than a “brag board.” It will showcase how to create posts that engage viewers and provide a call to action to encourage response. The course will also cover how to build awareness for your store brand and maintain a professional image online that attracts new customers.

“This will be one of the few classes we host without the noise from routers, the debris from shaping wood and plastic, and the odor from mixing bonding chemicals,” said Schmitt. “Learning how to reach, engage and convert customers through social media is one of the most important skills a store can have. Ethan and Ata are both accomplished storeowners who have tested and perfected the steps they will teach in their own stores. We are happy to host an event in which they share their strategies with others.”

Kowanetz will present a special session on developing and sustaining the right mindset for the workplace. In it, he will offer boots-on-the-ground tips and advice for eliminating distractions, pre-work preparation, productive interactions with customers and co-workers, and resolving problems in a positive way.

The all-day training will be preceded the night before by a pool part at the nearby Hilton Homewood Suites. Attendees will be treated to dinner during the pool party, sponsored by Orca Design and Manufacturing.

Tuition cost for the class is $149 and special hotel rates are available at the Hilton Homewood Suites for attendees staying overnight. Industry professionals can sign up at http://bit.ly/MS-BacktoSchool or get more information at www.mobilesolutions-usa.com/training.

TEMPE, ARIZ., August 1, 2016 (MEDIAWIRE) – Mobile Solutions, a premier training facility for professional installation technicians and fabricators, announced it will be holding its first Spanish language MasterTech Boot Camp, September 12-14, 2016, at its Tempe, Ariz., facility.
Mobile Solutions President Bryan Schmitt decided to hold the Spanish-language training after speaking with students in one of his recent sessions.
"A few of my students told me there were good fabricators in Mexico who wanted to attend our trainings, but were discouraged by the language barrier," he said. "I talked with my staff, half of whom speak Spanish fluently, and we decided to hold a training that caters exclusively to Spanish speakers."
The MasterTech Boot Camp consists of three days of training focused on structural and cosmetic aspects of OEM integration. Students learn creative but efficient ways to enhance installations while matching factory fit and design. In addition, Schmitt and his staff teach students how their jobs fit into the larger store structure with instruction on customer service, proper cost estimation and better organization skills.
Juan Torres, current Mobile Electronics magazine Installer of the Year, will co-teach the training and translate for Schmitt when necessary. And the same students who suggested the idea will be advocates in inviting students from Mexico to attend the session.
"This class shows that what we do as an industry is global and is appreciated by customers all over the world," continued Schmitt. “We’re excited to welcome these new students and look forward to expanding the reach of our brand and our profession.”

Turbo Charge Your Install Bay for the "After Virus" Times

TEMPE, Ariz. -- April 21, 2020 — Mobile Solutions delivered a live webinar on April 15 aimed toward retailers thinking about the new normal of what business looks like on the other side of the current COVID-19 pandemic. Nearly 300 people attended the live stream. Since then the recorded version has had over 800 views, increasing by 45-50 per day.

During the one hour webinar, Bryan Schmitt discussed the importance of being ready to respond when business returns and doors open again. He underscored new methodologies that include sterilizing customer vehicles before and after work is performed Schmitt encouraged retailers to communicate this to clientele through in-store signage, social media outreach and email marketing campaigns “We have to proactively communicate to the consumer that, as an industry, we are committed to take extra measures to ensure the work we perform in vehicles is done with their safety in mind” commented Schmitt. He feels that this will go a long way to making people comfortable enough to bring in their vehicles knowing that cleaning and protecting surfaces are a top priority.

“In the early days of car audio it was simple to be successful. Now, with all the competition and the diversity of the business (mobile electronics, not car stereo) you must be on your game and be ready to adapt” remarked Dalesandro of End Result, who encouraged 12-volt retailers to attend. End Result represents Mobile Solutions in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia and Dalesandro is well known for helping his retailers become better business owners through frequent in-person training events.

Other topics Schmitt discussed during the webinar included taking the down time to organize, clean and paint installation bays so that the workshop areas appear more like the high-end service bays at a car dealership rather than a dreary garage. “White walls and great lighting go a long way in making an impression, plus it’s just a better working environment” adds Schmitt. He suggests retailers take down the manufacturer banners, calendars and other non-essential wall clutter so that signage is clear and easy to understand.

Mobile Solutions will be presenting other fabrication and retailer-focused webinars in the weeks ahead. Keep an eye out on facebook, Instagram and their website for those announcements. Sign up for the email list at www.mobilesolutions-USA.com to receive the latest information directly.

Web-Based, Collaborative Training Gathers High Attendance

TEMPE, Ariz., December 28, 2020 — On Friday December 18, 2020, Mobile Solutions’ founder and CEO Bryan Schmitt along with Sage Weir from Sounds Good Stereo, TN and Tom Miller of Musicar Northwest, OR presented a collaborative, web-based training for ORCA Design and Manufacturing called UP FRONT FAB. The fabrication-themed training was open to all who pre-registered. It turned out to be an incredible success with over 330 attendees from at least eight countries including USA, Canada, Mexico, UK, Germany, Holland, South Africa and Australia.

“What was originally scheduled for 90 minutes went for about two hours, with plenty of interest from attendees to continue. There was enough content to schedule a complete second session with the topics we had.” explains Bryan Schmitt. The training session focused on speaker placement for premium sound quality builds, including addressing creation of speaker locations and finishing techniques required for custom A-pillars, dash grilles and tweeter pods. Schmitt did live, on-camera routering of a template shape and the actual plastic of an A-pillar to demonstrate how the techniques and steps actually progress. “So many engaged attendees and great questions along the way. This is the kind of audience you want to have,” added Schmitt.

Weir and Miller also shared their own approaches with their clientele as to how they come up with designs and techniques to build great-sounding, front stage-focused car audio systems. Weir talked about some recent vehicle installs where they implement a process for A-pillars that reduces the fabrication time and yields stellar results, thus helping to allocate budgets to higher-end component speakers. Miller also talked about his recent installs, as well as his tools and process of doing renderings to draw concepts before ever cutting any materials or starting the customization work. Altogether, a packed session with highly relevant topics to the attending audience. “Registrations topped 500, suggesting there is an appetite for this training format to continue” said Nalaka Adakari, Sales Director at ORCA Design. Mobile Solutions plans to do more of these training sessions in the future and thanks ORCA for their support.

A Critically Important Audio Test Tool Ever Technician Needs

TEMPE, Ariz., August 4, 2020 — Mobile Solutions announces the release of a new and exciting audio system test tool: the PT-9A+ Polarity Tester. It’s is an essential measurement tool for building and tuning great car audio systems. Advancing on the previous and highly successful PT-9A model, the new PT-9A+ adds even more capabilities to analyze signals, particularly in OEM audio system integration.

“In any car audio system, it’s critical to identify and verify the correct polarity of speakers, both before and after installation. The polarity of the electrical signals that connect to the speakers in OEM audio integration, as well as correctly identifying which wires correspond to which speaker locations, is also critical to verify” comments Bryan Schmitt, President of Mobile Solutions. The PT-9A+ does all of those tasks in one compact, easy-to-use tool.

The PT-9A+ has a safe, low voltage output pulse on either the preamp level (RCA) plug or speaker jacks. It generates polarity pulses directly into a speaker or AUX input, or the technician can use pulse tracks from the included USB thumb drive and load them on a portable media device. The built-in microphone on the front of the tool then determines if the speaker cone moves outward with the pulse (correct polarity) or inward (reversed polarity). The low voltage of the pulse means no damage to CAN Bus wires, Air Bag wires or other sensitive circuits if the technician mistakes other vehicle wiring for audio signal or speaker wiring. In the past, technicians would sometimes try to ‘pop’ speakers with power tool batteries or tape wires to a 9V or D cell battery for this task. The PT-9A+ is a much safer and professional way to pulse speakers and determine absolute acoustic polarity.

The game-changing new feature of the PT-9A+ is that the speaker jacks not only function as outputs for generating output pulses, but the jacks can be configured to accept speaker-level INPUT up to 4VAC to identify the electrical polarity of an audio signal. This feature essentially tells the technician which wire is positive (+) and negative (-) so that, when doing an OEM audio integration job, the inputs to a DSP or amplifier can be configured correctly with respect to polarity. Cancellation between audio signals (acoustic or electrical) is the number one problem that plagues most car audio systems which exhibit poor sound performance. “When all of the audio system’s signals and speakers are correct in polarity, only then can the technician do effective tuning for optimum sound quality” adds Schmitt.

polarity 1

PT9A+ Features:

  • Built-In Selectable Pulse Generator - Preamp Level (RCA) and Speaker Level Jacks
  • Built-In Compact Microphone for Testing/Verifying Acoustic Speaker Polarity
  • Speaker Level Jacks can be configured as Inputs for Electrical Signal Polarity Testing
  • Low Volume Threshold for Safe Testing – System volume does need not be loud to test
  • Easy-to-Understand Polarity LEDs – Green = Correct, Red = Incorrect
  • Built-In Low Battery Indicator LED
  • Includes USB Thumb Drive with Polarity Pulses and Pink Noise
  • Comes with a Protective Storage Case, Quick Start Guide and Insulated Test Leads
  • Uses a Standard 9V Battery (Not Included)

PT9A+ Applications:

  • Test polarity of audio system speakers before starting an installation or tuning
  • Generate pulses into the audio system to verify speaker location and polarity
  • Test polarity of OEM audio signals at the source unit or amplifier output (up to 4V)
  • Identify speaker location and polarity in OEM audio systems using internal pulse generator
  • Verify polarity shift in active or passive crossovers (especially 12dB/octave applications)
  • Optimize subwoofer polarity to blend with other system speakers for “up front” bass

The PT-9A+ is in stock at Mobile Solutions and shipping now. Special launch pricing of $99.99 is offered for a limited time by using the coupon code “PT9A-2020” upon checkout at www.mobilesolutions-USA.com.
