LAS VEGAS, January 5, 2017 (MEDIAWIRE) – KENWOOD is introducing its second dash camera at the 2017 CES. Joining the standalone, monitor-equipped DRV-410 is the DRV-N520, a smaller version that is intended to pair with the company’s new mech-less DMX7704S multimedia receiver.

“The DRV-410 surpassed our expectations in terms of its acceptance in the marketplace,” said Tony Mercado, marketing manager for KENWOOD. “Despite the plethora of inexpensive models on the market, many customers preferred the superior image quality and reliable operation of our unit. We’re very happy to pair these same features with an even better user experience in the DRV-N520.”

The DRV-N520 features a high-resolution, wide-angle camera that records a three-megapixel (photo quality) image. Its small footprint minimizes window blockage, and recordings are stored on a removable eight-gigabyte SD card. In addition to its recording capabilities, the camera also measures distance and velocity between it and cars or obstacles in its view. Based on circumstances, it can trigger a collision warning to the driver if it senses an imminent impact, or notify the driver in stopped traffic if the vehicle in front of it has started moving.

As the DRV-N520 is not a standalone dash camera, its control, notifications and camera view are processed on the connected DMX7704S receiver. By using the in-dash touch screen, users can change recording modes, turn collision warning and delay departure notifications on or off, and set the camera display duration. Notifications are displayed on the screen as well.

Like the DRV-410, the DRV-N520 includes an internal G sensor to detect impact, and can be set to begin recording if the vehicle is struck while parked or otherwise unoccupied. All recordings can be played back through the DMX7704S touch screen.

The suggested retail price of the DRV-N520, like the DRV-410, is $200. For more information, visit

Domestically, he was instrumental in developing brand messaging and implementing campaigns to support the company’s marketing channels.

“I am grateful for all the years I had with my previous employer,” said Davis. “I was able to gain extensive experience and make lifelong industry connections that I can use throughout my career. More smartphones to become compatible with Android OS 9.0 release.

LONG BEACH, CALIF., May 8, 2018 (MEDIAWIRE)– In April, KENWOOD USA announced the wireless Android Auto™ feature built into its 2018 flagship multimedia receivers was active and compatible with select Android-based smartphones. The KENWOOD eXcelon Reference Series DNX995S and DDX9905S, as well as the KENWOOD eXcelon DMX905S and KENWOOD DNX875S and DDX9705S, allow the driver to leave the phone in a pocket or bag and still get the benefit of its powerful and useful feature set. Today, the company acknowledged the current smartphone compatibility list is small but growing.

Android Auto is the popular innovation from Google that lets drivers access certain apps and features on their smartphones—navigation, messaging, Google Assistant and more—from the ease and safety of the car radio's multimedia touch screen. Until now, the function required a cable connection between the radio and smartphone. With the implementation of the wireless feature, the smartphone no longer requires a cable for Android Auto to function.

"From our standpoint, wireless Android Auto is fully functional," said Rick Noetzli, general manager for KENWOOD product research and development, car electronics sector. "Our radios can communicate with any smartphone that has the right protocols. It's just that, as of now, there are only a handful of phones that do, and these are currently all Google devices. But we fully expect more smartphone makers to enable the functionality in their devices, and when they do, our receivers will be ready."

The only devices that currently support wireless Android Auto are four versions of the Google Pixel—the first-generation Pixel and Pixel XL and the second-generation Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL—and the legacy Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. They must be upgraded to Android OS 8.0 or higher (via an over-the-air upgrade). For other device manufacturers, wireless Android Auto will be implemented with the adoption of Android OS 9.0 or higher.

Most smartphone manufacturers will announce when software updates are available and when newer devices ship with the upgraded software. In addition, Google will maintain a compatibility list on its support page at Under “Get started with Android Auto,” the current list of compatible smartphones is displayed under “Android Auto on your car (wireless).” (The location of this information is subject to change.)

All KENWOOD multimedia receivers that support wireless Android Auto offer full compatibility and smartphone charging through a wired connection. For detailed information on the specific features of each receiver, please view their product pages at

New mono-block amps pair with Hi-Res Audio amplifiers and multimedia receivers

LONG BEACH, CALIF., January 18, 2018 (MEDIAWIRE) – With the release of new Hi-Res Audio amplifiers, KENWOOD has introduced a series of subwoofer and mono-block amplifiers that both complement the new products and provide better integration options for system designers. Two subwoofer amplifiers, a powered subwoofer, and a versatile woofer that can be had with or without an enclosure make up the 2018 offerings.

With an MSRP of $450, the KENWOOD eXcelon XR601-1 is a single-channel power amplifier that is rated at 600 watts at two ohms. Its more powerful partner, the KENWOOD eXcelon XR1001-1, rates 1,000 watts at two ohms and carries an MSRP of $650. Both feature speaker-level and low-level inputs, include a bass control knob and are scheduled to ship this month.

The new KSC-PSW8 amplified subwoofer features an eight-inch driver and 250-watt max amplifier in an enclosure suited for simpler installs under a truck’s rear bench seats. MSRP for the KSC-PSW8 is $350 and it will also ship this month.

For custom installs, the KENWOOD eXcelon XR-W804 handles 300 watts RMS through its single four-ohm input. It features a new, evenly dispersed spider to improve durability and an oversized diaphragm for lower frequency response. Despite the larger diaphragm, the speaker is designed to fit into a standard 8-inch subwoofer opening. Shipping this month, the XR-W804 has an MSRP of $180. It will also ship as the KENWOOD eXcelon P-XW804B in a down-firing, vented subwoofer enclosure with an MSRP of $230.

“Integration is the driving force of our industry,” said Tony Mercado, marketing manager for the KENWOOD brand. “As we build products to fit more vehicle applications, it only makes sense that our subwoofers and subwoofer amplifiers follow suit. Our new, low-profile amplifiers carry the same look as our Hi-Res Audio amplifiers, giving installers more system design options, whether the intent is show or stealth.”

Noise elimination, system flexibility provide premium options for any system configuration

LAS VEGAS, Nev -- January 8, 2019 (MEDIAWIRE) – KENWOOD USA added three new amplifiers to its KENWOOD eXcelon line for 2019, each optimized to connect to factory installed radios for audio system enhancement. Two multi-channel designs—the X302-4 (MSRP $349.95), X802-5 (MSRP $529.95)—as well as the X502-1 (MSRP $349.95) monoblock design, let users maintain familiar factory installed controls and features while dramatically improving audio system headroom and sound quality.

All new KENWOOD eXcelon X series amplifiers are stable to two ohms and provide ample power in any applicable configuration. The X302-4 produces 75 watts RMS from each of its four channels at two ohms and doubles this amount when bridged to two channels with a four-ohm load. The highly flexible X802-5 mirrors these specs and adds a fifth channel that outputs up to 500 watts RMS with a two-ohm load. And the single-channel X502-1 will also deliver 500 watts RMS at two ohms, or 300 watts RMS at four ohms.

“Whenever you interact with a factory installed radio or amplifier, the most critical step is the elimination or avoidance of noise in audio playback,” said Scott Caswell, senior marketing manager for KENWOOD. “These new amplifiers have been enhanced with internal mechanics to accomplish this, as well as connectivity features to make interfacing a more streamlined process.”

In addition to traditional RCA inputs that connect to aftermarket receivers, the new amplifiers feature dedicated inputs to connect to speaker-level outputs from factory radios and amplifiers, eliminating the possibility of noise from poor splicing connections. All connections are on one side of the amplifier to minimize issues with wire routing, and aluminum has been introduced into the mounting structure to reduce vibration.

Internal improvements include electronic component enhancements to reduce THD (total harmonic distortion). A subsonic filter improves efficiency by eliminating playback of frequencies outside the audible range, and a new circuit board layout and components provide a marked decrease of radiated noise.

Another new addition to these amplifiers is a remote controller input, enabling users to control the bass channel input sensitivity from the optional KCA-RC01A remote control. The KCA-RC01A features both surface- and flush-mounting options for optimum positioning.

The new KENWOOD eXcelon X series amplifiers are expected to be available in February. For more information on select models and features, visit

LAS VEGAS, January 5, 2017 (MEDIAWIRE) – At the 2017 CES, KENWOOD is introducing its first car audio power amplifier with built-in digital signal processing. The XR600-6DSP (MSRP $800) is a six-channel power plant that, through partnership with Automotive Data Solutions (ADS), upgrades select factory audio systems by supplanting, rather than supplementing the factory amplifier. Its highly customizable outputs can be configured to create the ideal sound stage and retain functionality of factory installed safety and entertainment components that use the audio system to deliver notifications.

The XR600-6DSP, combined with the ADS iDatalink Maestro AR (Amplifier Replacement module; MSRP $130) is a sleeker, more intuitive alternative to the current OEM integration products that process audio from the high-level outputs of the factory amplifier. These solutions involve summing and processing all the amplified, split-frequency channels back into full-range signals, filtering out noise from the amplification, processing the restructured signals, then re-amplifying them for output to speakers and subwoofers. Very often in this scenario, certain factory features are lost, such as fading or factory notifications being output through specific speakers.

The ADS iDatalink Maestro AR uses a vehicle-specific T-harness to attach between the factory radio and amplifier, providing a clean, flat audio signal to the XR600-6DSP through a proprietary harness. In addition, it supplies the specific control signals that retain factory function and notifications.

"It's really the gateway to attaining the highest quality audio reproduction from a high-end factory system," said Tony Mercado, marketing manager for KENWOOD. "We recognize that not every vehicle, especially newer models, can have the factory radio replaced without extensive back-end integration and upfront fabrication. With the Maestro AR and our XR600-6DSP, the factory amplifier no longer has to be the obstacle between good-enough audio and great audio."

The XR600-6DSP maximizes the clean factory audio signal with a built-in, 192kHz / 32-bit processing module that facilitates up to 10 channels of audio (six internally amplified; four with additional amplification). The internal signal processing and amplification circuitry are separated to maintain signal integrity. Digital Time Alignment is electronically set for each channel, and each pair of channels is tailored with adjustable crossover points and 13 bands of equalization. Finally, the individual channels are fine-tuned with a three-band parametric equalizer before being amplified and sent to speakers.

Amplified outputs are fully configurable to match most factory speaker layouts. The six-channel amplifier is measured at 75 watts RMS per channel at four ohms with bridging capability to produce 200 watts RMS through three channels at four ohms. Two sets of five-volt RCA connectors allow additional amplifiers to be added to the system without the need for more crossovers or processing.

With the new KENWOOD DSP control app installed on a compatible iPhone® or Android™-powered device, the XR600-6DSP is wirelessly configurable with broad access for installation technicians (Installer mode) and limited selections for end users (User mode). Built-in Bluetooth® connects the amplifier to the app. In the Installer mode, the technician sets the speaker map, time alignment, crossover points, equalization and parametric EQ settings for all applicable channels. With a simpler interface, users can select the listening focus, overall equalization presets and subwoofer volume.

For larger systems, the KENWOOD XR600-6DSP can be paired with the new XR1000-1 mono-channel power amplifier (MSRP $500; shipping in January), capable of up to 1,000 watts RMS at two ohms. Improved capacitance and cooling efficiency create more power with less heat, and its Dual Sigma Drive technology provides controlled, accurate bass.

The XR600-6DSP comes with the data cable to connect to the Maestro AR as well as an extension cable for more installation options. The vehicle-specific T-harnesses are sold separately and available from ADS.  Both the XR600-6DSP and Maestro AR are scheduled to ship in March with applications for 2011 and newer Ford vehicles with My Ford Touch and Sony amplifiers, as well as 2011 and newer Chrysler vehicles with eight-inch screens and factory amplifiers. A Toyota / Lexus solution will follow shortly after launch
