The 2013 Mobile Electronics Industry Awards are Here! It’s time to show that you’ve got what it takes as we start the march toward the coveted Retailer of the Year and Installer of the Year awards. And it all starts with nominations for the Top 50 Retailers and Top 100 Installers in North America!
What’s NEW This Year?
- 1.Nominate Yourself! Retailers and installers are now allowed to initiate their own nominations! A manufacturer’s representative (factory or independent) is still required to “second” your nomination.
- 2.Yup, Canada is Included! We’ve got some great companies up north, and great retailers, too.
- 3.Get Your Camera Ready! This year, all potential nominees must put together a short video to tell us why you should be on the Top 50 or Top 100 list and ultimately become the Retailer of the Year or Installer of the Year.
- 4.Retail Categories are Back! Retailer of the Year awards will be based on three categories: Single Store, Small Chain (two to three locations) and Medium / Large Chain (four locations or more).
- 5.New Awards! We’re adding two more retail awards: Trusted Tech rewards the top non-fabricating installer, and Contributor of the Year recognizes an outstanding individual who works to better the industry by offering unselfish advice and assistance to his peers.
The Road to the Industry Awards
Top 50 Retailers and Top 100 Installers
The Top 50 and Top 100 awards annually recognize the best business operations and installation technicians, as voted by qualified manufacturers’ representatives and Mobile Electronics magazine staff. Each winner receives a wall certificate and press release, along with rights to use the associated logos to promote the award in marketing materials and media. The winners are also the only ones eligible to be selected for the Top 12 Retailers and Top 12 Installers.
Top 12 Retailers and Top 12 Installers
The Top 12 retailers and installers are selected from the Top 50 and Top 100, respectively. These typically represent an elite group, as voted by their peers and other professionals in the mobile electronics industry. Customers of retailers are also allowed to vote, though their votes are weighted differently. Each of the Top 12 receives a wall certificate and press release, along with rights to use the associated logos to promote the award in marketing materials and media. The winners then will send in materials and information to be considered for the ultimate industry awards: Retailer of the Year and Installer of the Year.
Retailer of the Year
The Retailer of the Year honor is awarded to four retailers annually, as judged by the staff of Mobile Electronics magazine and specialty judges. This year, the award recipients will be the highest scorers in three size categories:
- •Two winners in the Single Store category
- •One winner in the Small Chain category (two to three locations)
- •One winner in the Medium / Large Chain category (four or more locations)
Winners receive a trophy, wall certificate and press release, along with rights to use the associated logos to promote the award in marketing materials and media. They also will be recognized through the following 12 months, and their comments and expertise will be featured in several upcoming issues of Mobile Electronics magazine.
Installer of the Year
The Installer of the Year is the most recognized industry award. The winner is selected from the Top 12 by the staff of Mobile Electronics magazine and specialty judges. He or she will receive a trophy, wall certificate and press release, along with rights to use the associated logos to promote the award in marketing materials and media. The winner also will be recognized through the following 12 months, and his/her comments and expertise will be featured in several upcoming issues of Mobile Electronics magazine.
Trusted Tech Award and Industry Contributor Award
Recipients of these awards will be selected from among the Top 100 installers, or from among staff members at one of the Top 50 retailers. Each recipient will receive a trophy, wall certificate and press release, along with rights to use the associated logos to promote the award in marketing materials and media. The winners will also be recognized through the following 12 months, and their comments and expertise will be featured in several upcoming issues of Mobile Electronics magazine.
Qualifications to Be Considered for the Industry Awards
Retailers:
- •The location must be a brick-and-mortar location and include an installation facility. If the location is a non-traditional physical location, the business owner must provide a current business license and/or other materials to show compliance with running the business in a non-traditional location.
- •The business must sell at least three direct lines of primary product.
- •The business must have been in operation at the same location for at least three years.
- •At least 50 percent of revenue in the business must be derived from the mobile electronics category.
Installers:
- •The installer must be employed full time at a brick-and-mortar location that includes an installation facility. If the location is a non-traditional physical location the business owner must provide a current business license and/or other materials to show compliance with running the business in a non-traditional location.
- •The installers must have a minimum of five years’ professional experience (working for licensed businesses).
- •Any work samples submitted must have been performed within the past 12 months on behalf of the retail facility (no side work), and the installer must have completed at least 60 percent of the work shown.
- •Current MECP or ASE certification, or evidence of continuing installation education within the last year, is preferred but not required.
How to Submit Your Nomination
Retailers:
- 1.Click the Retailer Nomination link and fill in the required information.
- 2.Record a short video (two minutes maximum) outlining why you should be considered for Retailer of the Year. Name your video using your store name. Upload your video to dropbox.yousendit.com/IndustryAwards2013 with your full name and store in the message field.
- 3.Please provide three images: outside of your location, showroom and installation area. Upload these images to dropbox.yousendit.com/IndustryAwards2013 with your full name and store in the message field.
- 4.Please provide copies of any other documentation (business license, etc.) if required to verify your qualification. Upload these documents to dropbox.yousendit.com/IndustryAwards2013 with your full name and store in the message field.
- 5.Contact your rep and email him / her the Rep Nomination link, and have them fill in the required information to nominate you. (Each individual sales representative may only nominate a total of three stores or installers.)
Installers:
- 1.If qualified, click the Installer Nomination link and fill in the required information.
- 2.Record a short video (two minutes maximum) outlining why you should be considered for Installer of the Year. Include your name and store name at the beginning of your video. Upload your video to dropbox.yousendit.com/IndustryAwards2013 with your full name and store in the message field.
- 3.Please provide three images of any work you’ve completed within the past 12 months. Email these images to dropbox.yousendit.com/IndustryAwards2013 with your full name and store in the message field.
- 4.Contact your rep and email him / her the Rep Nomination link, and have them fill in the required information to nominate you. (Each individual sales representative may only nominate a total of three stores or installers.)
